Red Hot Chili Peppers surpassed one billion views on YouTube last Monday, the 5th, with the music video for their hit song "Californication." This is the band's first video to achieve this feat.
Released 13 years ago, the music video is directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Fari . In it, the artists are seen adventuring in California, but inside a fictional video game. The most famous scene is that of John Frusciante and Anthony Kiedis riding a kind of giant insect. Watch the video at the end of this article.
The music video was so successful that Miguel Camps Orteza developed a video game in which he can take the place of the band members and have fun at various levels.
"Californication" was the fourth single from the album of the same name. With promotion beginning in June 2000, the track entered the Billboard and was certified five times platinum.
This YouTube milestone came the same week that the Red Hot Chili Peppers announced a tour for their latest albums, Unlimited Love (2022) and Return of the Dream Canteen (2022). The 23 dates will take place across North America and Europe in 2023. The Strokes and St. Vincent are among the opening acts.
