Ray Burton , father of legendary Metallica Cliff Burton , died last Wednesday, the 16th.
The announcement was made today by Cliff's daughter and sister, Connie Burton, via her Facebook page.
Ray was present for many moments in Metallica's life after his son's death. He was always considered a father figure to all the band members
Cliff's father even gave a speech at the event that inducted Metallica into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It was also known that Ray Burton donated Cliff's royalties from Metallica's music to public school students .
The Rock Feed channel announced Ray's passing, including a statement from James Hetfield about his admiration for Cliff's father:
“When I was growing up, I wanted to be Ray Burton. He’s so inspiring. His energy, his love for life really attracts me. I just have to look at him and I start to smile.”
May he now rest in peace, with his son Cliff.
