Regarding the new BMTH sound, Sykes said: "it's a million times more exciting than that crap you hear on the radio."
Oli Sykes , lead singer of Bring Me The Horizon , said that "rap is almost the new punk." He also argued that "rock has become soft, miserable, and boring."
The band will release their new album, Amo , in January, which distances itself somewhat from its metal roots. Sykes said it's important for them to evolve in order to maintain an emotional connection.
“That’s why rappers are the new rock’n’roll or punk or whatever,” Sykes told Music Week . “Rock is soft, miserable and boring, there’s nothing really exciting about it anymore. So it’s important that we cross over. We feel like we belong in a place where people like music. It’s not about how heavy we are.”
Keyboardist Jordan Fish continued: “A lot of artists I like have constantly changed throughout their careers. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands – and I wouldn’t compare us to Radiohead – but a lot of people would say they prefer The Bends . I don’t like the old material, I like when they became electronic.”
Sykes said that even though they might make more commercial music now, what matters is that they remain "thrilling and exciting."
“Even if it’s more pop music, it’s a million times more exciting than that crap you hear on the radio. It’s thrilling, it has depth, and it will always grab you and make you feel something,” he added.
