Randy Blythe , vocalist of Lamb of God, strongly criticized the Grammy Awards and the treatment that metal receives at the event.
On The Jasta Show , hosted by Hatebreed Jamey Jasta , Blythe was asked if he watched the 2025 edition of the awards.
The vocalist replied that no, but that he was happy about Gojira 's victory in the "Best Metal Performance" category . He also said he was a "longtime supporter" of the French band , but that he "never watches the Grammys." (via Blabbermouth )
“I’m very proud that they achieved this, and I’m not trying to diminish the achievement or anything like that, but the Grammy means nothing to me. I have five nominations.”
Grammy voting process , mentioning that many members of The Recording Academy lack the necessary knowledge about metal to make a fair assessment. He revealed that, in order to vote, members need to choose all categories, not just those in which they specialize.
"Half the time, a member of the Academy, who is part of the recording industry, or whatever, comes to their secretary and says, 'Fill this out.' It's not a collegial assessment."
Despite his nominations, he stated that he was never invited to the event again, as he auctioned off his nomination medals for charity.
"To quote Flavor Flav, who cares about a damn Grammy ? I don't care. I don't care about awards and I don't need a cookie."
The vocalist had already boycotted the Grammys in 2007.
Randy Blythe, in addition to his most recent criticisms of the Grammys , went on "strike" against the event in 2007. That year, Lamb of God was nominated for "Best Metal Performance" for "Redneck".
At the time, Chris Adler , the band , told the TimesDispatch that the vocalist was boycotting on his own initiative. Adler also mentioned that Blythe "called the band sellouts" during rehearsals and that in Randy's mind "he was being true to the roots of rock" by carrying out his boycott.
