Randy Blythe of Lamb of God admits he "would have died" if he hadn't stopped drinking.

The lead singer needed almost five years to overcome his addiction.

Randy Blythe , vocalist for Lamb of God , gave an honest interview to Metal Hammer magazine about overcoming alcoholism – and how it saved his life.

“I haven’t drunk in over 10 years now. Unfortunately, I’ve known people who didn’t embrace the choice to try something different… And they’re dead now,” he lamented. “I don’t know what’s inside me, I’m definitely not going to say I’m special or made of stronger morals than anyone else, but I made this conscious decision and I feel lucky to have.”

To maintain motivation and sobriety, the singer's "driving force" was a single certainty: "If I don't stop drinking, I'm going to die." It took four and a half years of attempts to achieve sobriety before he finally succeeded.
