In an interview with Long Island Pulse, Lamb Of God vocalist Randy Blythe was asked about the band's current tour, supporting and opening for Slayer. The vocalist was asked if it's difficult to open for a band like Slayer:
“Not for us. And I’ll explain why. Our first real tour was opening for Gwar. And Gwar fans can be just as passionate and merciless as Slayer fans. If you give them a chance, if they sense weakness, they attack. And all you’ll hear is “Gwar! Gwar! Gwar!”.
The situation is the same with Slayer. They'll chant "Slayer" until you're off stage if you don't get in right. When we toured with Gwar, we knew it would be like that, so we played at a very fast tempo, three or four songs without stopping… Without giving them a chance, without any space between songs for them to start singing. And this strategy of being heavy and aggressive has always been with us.
The tour with Slayer in Germany was interesting. We weren't kicked off the stage with people chanting for us to leave, but the fans were there to see Slayer. It was kind of like hearing silence. They look at you with a look that says, 'Why aren't you Slayer? We're here to see Slayer.'.
When you open for a band like Slayer, you have to go in confident and destroy everything. And that's what we've done from the beginning. And it works well. You can't be complacent when you play with Slayer, no way. Their fans… God only knows what they can do.”
