Rancid shared this Thursday, the 16th, a version of “Sex & Death” Motörhead tribute album . Titled Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead , the album is a tribute to the band's relationship with punk, with a release scheduled for October 31st by BMG.
Lars Frederiksen , vocalist and guitarist of Rancid, commented: “It’s like the perfect Motörhead song for me. You know as well as I do how much Lemmy was a fan of the Ramones . And it sounds like his version, Motörhead playing the Ramones. But it has that little guitar solo there. And it was the most Rancid-esque song that Motörhead ever did, so I thought it would be similar enough to a song we would write.”
The album features 14 Motörhead tracks performed by some of the genre's leading names, such as Rancid , Pennywise , Lagwagon , GBH , The Bronx , Fear , and Slaughterhouse .
The first single released to promote the album was the previously unreleased "Neat, Neat, Neat" by Motörhead and The Damned . The track, originally recorded in 2002 between the artists, had never been officially released until now.
In an old quote shared in a press release, Lemmy said about the band's connection to the punk scene: “The punks loved us. The only reason we weren't in that group was because we had long hair, so obviously we must be heavy metal. That was the thinking. But a lot of young people heard us without seeing a picture, so they thought we were a punk band.”
