Will Rage Against The Machine return to the stage? "There's no news," says Tom Morello.

The guitarist spoke in an interview about the cancellation of the reunion tour and the future of the band.

Rage Against The Machine reunion tour may not go ahead after the cancellation of dates scheduled for 2023, due to a serious injury suffered by vocalist Zac de la Rocha . According to Tom Morello , the future of these shows is still uncertain.

The band returned to the stage in 2022 after more than a decade without performing together. After postponements due to the pandemic , the band's reunion tour lasted from July to August of that year, when Zac de la Rocha released a statement explaining his inability to continue with the schedule after injuring his Achilles tendon.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone (via Loudwire ), guitarist Tom Morello spoke about his bandmate getting injured during only the second show of the tour. “Well, the irony is that I had just recovered from a ruptured Achilles tendon. I was rehearsing on crutches. [When he got injured], I recognized him by the way he walked. But Zack held on that night. And in the following 17 shows, he was more compelling as a frontman sitting in a box in the middle of the stage than 99% of the frontmen in the history of all time,” he said.

Morello said he doesn't remember any conversations about postponing the shows right away. “I just wanted to make sure he was okay. We didn't know what it was. I didn't want to diagnose it. But I had just gone through it. I was familiar with the severity of the injury. I was very proud of him for going ahead and completing that leg of the tour,” he continued.

Throughout the shows, Zac de la Rocha performed seated, but the remaining dates had to be canceled due to medical orders. “I don’t know all the details, but there are dangers when traveling by plane. There’s the risk of blood clots and everything else. It’s not the best way to be on the road with a recently ruptured Achilles tendon,” Morello explained.

When finally asked about the future of the tour once Zac recovers, Morello's response was vague. “We'll see. If there are more shows, we'll announce them as a band. I don't know. I know as much as you do, honestly. Right now we're in a healing phase. I'm in a phase of making music and a lot of other things,” he said simply. “When there's news, it will come from a collective band statement. There's no news yet.”
