A poster that purportedly confirmed a world tour by Rage Against The Machine has been confirmed as fake.

The Los Angeles quartet announced their reunion last month and confirmed three shows in the US and two performances at Coachella.

RATM fans have been waiting to hear about more tour dates, and a poster promising a world tour has begun circulating. Some images even showed the band's official Instagram page posting the poster.

However, an Australian confirmed to Wall of Sound that he is behind the fake poster.

"I used Photoshop on Instagram. The poster isn't anything amazing, but Instagram really sells the idea," he said.

"Regarding why I do this, I love a good joke. And also, it would be really cool if Rage Against The Machine came to Australia," he explained.
