Queensrÿche 's founding drummer , Scott Rockenfield – who has been on hiatus since 2017 – took to social media to share his thoughts on the band's current vocalist, Todd La Torre , and former vocalist, Geoff Tate .
The first post, addressed to Todd, states: “Just a little clarification here. Subject: Todd La Torre (subcontractor – Queensryche). Topic: For the record, 'any and all opinions, views, statements and/or comments etc. etc., that continue to be expressed by Mr. La Torre (whether past, present or future) should in no way be considered as representing the beliefs, opinions and/or views expressed by any of the Queensryche brands and/or various corporations that have been in effect for over 40 years'.”.
In a second post, targeting Geoff Tate, Rockenfield writes: “And, a little more to clarify, to set things up a bit. Subject: Geoff Tate (former Queensrÿche singer). Topic: “Former Queensrÿche vocalist Geoff Tate has expressed his doubt that Rockenfield will 'play drums again'…??? Tate even said: 'he has a lot of medical problems and things like that right now'. ??? …Tate also stating: 'He's in a kind of dark place, and I hope he gets some help, because he's really down, you know?'…??? etc etc… blah blah blah…”
“Okay, wow, that’s incredibly interesting, right? Most of you already know this, but since I haven’t seen, spoken to, or communicated with Tate for over 10 years, these statements seem quite bold to be making about someone,” he continued.
"Could anyone think that even a 'slightly educated' person should know that making such crazy statements about someone is probably negative? And don't get me wrong, I'm still smiling… This could all be a gift in disguise from the Universe, right? However, could the former singer possibly take a step back and reconsider these statements?".
In January 2021, Rockenfield took to social media to confirm that he is still a member of Queensrÿche and has not retired from music.
Then, in October 2021, Metal Sludge reported that Rockenfield had filed a lawsuit against former bandmates Michael Wilton (guitars) and Eddie Jackson (bass) and several related band companies.
