John Deacon Queen 's original bassist , made his first contribution to the band after 28 years. In his first public project in decades, Deacon, alongside Brian May and Roger Taylor, signed a copy of the 1975 A Night At The Opera

Although Brian May and Roger Taylor regularly donate items to charity, this is the first time Deacon has autographed items since officially leaving the band in 1997.

Freddie Mercury 's annual Birthday Party in Montreux, a benefit for a charity established in Mercury's name. The event will take place at the Casino Barrière Montreux on September 6th, the site of Queen's legendary Mountain Studios . More details about the auction can be found on Queen's official website.

In addition, all proceeds will go towards raising awareness about HIV/AIDS in honor of Mercury's death from complications associated with the disease.

According to the Mercury Phoenix Trust [via NME ], the signatures are “100% authentic”, signed “within the last two weeks”.

Despite Deacon living anonymously in recent decades and not contributing to any music, the bassist is still technically involved in the band. In a 2023 interview with The Guardian  , guitarist Brian May said that Deacon has a say in the band's business dealings. “If we have any important decisions, in terms of business, it always goes over John. That doesn't mean he talks to us – he usually doesn't – but he communicates in some way. He's still a fundamental part of Queen.”
