Wikimetal Quarantine: Brazilian bands you need to know (Part 13)

The final list of 2020 includes Necromancer, Morticia, and Letters Into Eternity

So it's Christmas, and what have you been doing? Well, here at Wikimetal we've been very respectful of the quarantine (and plan to continue with this plan for as long as necessary), and of course, we've been discovering a lot of great music!

In our final list of 2020, we've gathered three bands to rock your end-of-year parties, get the kids out of the room, bring metal fans together at dinnertime, and make that older aunt of yours give you a dirty look (as usual).

1) Starting with the Rio de Janeiro band Necromancer , who recently released the album Pattern of Repulse and shared with fans the lyric video for the intriguing track "Bloody Countess," created by W. Perna . "This song is about a repulsive princess created by hatred, the Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory, so often portrayed in film and even in heavy metal—just think of the band Bathory , for example. The verses 'Countess of misfortune, princess of anguish / Countess of suffering, princess of death' perfectly summarize what I wanted to convey, and the lyric video portrays her with images of her and the cover art of the new album," explained guitarist Luiz Fernando , author of the lyrics.

Necromancer currently consists of Marcelo Coutinho (vocals), Luiz Fernando and Eduardo “Dek” (guitars), Gustavo Fernandez (bass), and Vinicius Cavalcanti (drums).

2) Following them are the gauchos from Mortticia , who recently released the EP A Light In The Black , composed of unreleased tracks and re-recordings of songs from their first EP, “Existence/Resistance”, from 2018, and which has been in the works since 2019, having to adapt to the changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The album features the help of Iuri Sanson , formerly of Hibria , on vocals alongside lead singer Lucas Fialho Zawacki , while another former Hibria member, guitarist and producer Renato Osorio , assisted the group in finalizing the material.

The band draws inspiration from national and international metal, such as NWOTHM ( New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal ), as well as regional bands like Goaten and Inner Caligula .

3) Last but not least, there's the band Letters Into Eternity and the music video for the track "Who I Am," the group's fourth single and the first of 2020.

“The song is about a person who has a dream, who pursues and fights for it. And at the same time, there are people close to her who try to bring her down, try to make her give up, but deep down they are just bitter people for having given up themselves,” says guitarist and producer Felipe Nothen . “So for them, it’s horrible to see someone being stronger than they were. Even with the distance, I had the idea to make the video, and we each filmed from a different city; then I worked to give it a sense of unity in the editing.”

The music video was filmed in the cities of Caxias do Sul, Porto Alegre, and Los Angeles, in the United States, and will be included on the band's upcoming EP, which is scheduled for release in the first half of 2021.
