We're still in quarantine here, but luckily, there's no shortage of good music, and with that, our series of Brazilian bands for you to discover and listen to with the Wikimetal reaches its 11th edition!
Here we've selected five bands that we believe are a great choice to help you beat the boredom of quarantine. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the music!
1) Alchemia Inception on October 31st and celebrated the release with the single and music video “Grind,” which you can watch by clicking here . “The lyrics portray a discussion between the conscious and the unconscious, where the conscious mind complains to the unconscious about why it allowed certain actions that happen in everyone's lives, showing how frustration and pain strengthen us as human beings,” explained Victor Hugo Piiroja , the band's vocalist.
Besides Piiroja, Alchemia consists of Rodrigo Maciel (guitar), FIFAS (bass), Alex Cristopher (drums), and Wally D'Alessandro (keyboards).
2) Evil Politicians , from Curitiba, released their first EP in July of this year. Entitled No More Fear, the work features three original compositions in addition to a reinterpretation of "The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)" by Kamelot , with a duet between vocalist Bruno Martins and singer Isa Roddy.
According to a press release, the EP was part of vocalist Bruno Martins , and the lyrics expose this struggle while the melody carries a heaviness influenced by Disturbed , Alter Bridge , and Avenged Sevenfold . Listen to the EP No More Fear below.
3) Formed in 2017, the band Contralma brings a sound based on nu metal, but without forgetting its roots in Brazilian music and carries within it the spirit of justice and integrity, addressing these themes in its lyrics. Listen below to "Lacuna dos Inocentes," a beautiful example of this mix of influences.
Contralma is Erso (guitar), Rafael Moura (bass), Guto Belina (drums), Rappa Nui (vocals) and Shaka Ranzarth (guitar).
4) Inspired by hardcore, the Rio de Janeiro-based group Dias de Guerra , formed in 2009, released a music video depicting the reality of children in Rio de Janeiro's favelas. The important message of the "Chagas" video is one of the band's central themes, as much of it is inspired by their personal lives.
“Realizing this project was a milestone not only professionally, as it was the band's first music video, but it was also something significant in each of our personal lives. The contact with the reality of that community and with the people who live there,” said Bruno Oliveira , the band's bassist.
Besides Bruno, Dias de Guerra features Rafael Novaes (guitar) and Michel Santos (vocals). Watch the video below.
5) Paulo Rocha (guitar and vocals), Guto Gonzales (drums) and Alexandre Marques (bass) form Science Toys, a band from São Paulo that has just released their second single “Arrows”, the successor to “Hybrid”, released in September 2019.
The sound is a mix of grunge and alternative rock, highlighting Rocha's strong riffs. Check out "Arrow" below.
