The Russian group Pussy Riot and the English duo Nova Twins have joined forces in an electrifying collaboration on the new single "Bad Trip".
The alternative rock track features plenty of screamo and electronic production by Argentinian producer Mykka , while also following the feminist and activist themes that are a trademark of Pussy Riot . In it, the group satirizes the practice of mansplaining , which is when a man explains something obvious to a woman in a condescending manner; usually something she already knows or a subject in which she has authority.
“I’m a huge fan of Bosch , so I wanted to imagine what my version of hell/twisted breeze would be like on this track,” explains Nadya Riot . “Being the target of mansplaining and being totally dominated would be my version of hell, so that’s why my verse says: ‘ Explain this to me! I don’t know what I’m doing with my life, how to be a woman, tell me how to be a wife, how to kiss and how to die. I want to be obedient, I want to be your wife.’”
The track began production during the COVID-19 pandemic and features the duo Nova Twins, who won the UK Best Newcomer award at the Heavy Music Awards in 2020 and collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon on the track “1×1” from the EP POST HUMAN: SURVIVOR HORROR (2020) .
“We love Pussy Riot and everything they represent, so when Nadya contacted us during quarantine, asking us to participate in 'Bad Trip', we were thrilled! The track is incredible and they are a force of nature!”, commented the English duo.
