Pardon the redundancy, but the traveling festival Punk is Coming , produced by 30e, is really coming! It's almost here, actually.
In less than a month, more precisely on March 5th, Belo Horizonte will host the first event in this series of shows headlined by the Californian band The Offspring and complemented by five other bands, of different origins and relationship with punk, so to speak, but all with enough presence to guarantee a place on this tour.
In addition to Belo Horizonte, the shows will take place in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre, and will feature the aforementioned The Offspring, as well as The Damned , Sublime , Rise Against , Amyl and The Sniffers , and The Warning . The lineup will vary from city to city, and the only cities that will receive the full force, with the complete band, will be São Paulo and Curitiba, on March 8th and 9th. The Offspring, as the main attraction, is the only band that will be in all cities.
Punk fans, as a musical genre that has been with us since the 1970s, have much to be excited about at this festival. Even though the lineup consists of only six bands, it boasts a more than decent level of diversity in several ways.
Hailing from California and headlining the tour, The Offspring emerged in the 80s and, in addition to a great number of hits, have established a very affectionate relationship with the Brazilian public over the years. Last October, they released the album *Supercharged *, which includes the song "Come to Brazil ," precisely to honor their Brazilian fans. The moment they play this song at their shows promises to be something special in every city.
The English band The Damned are part of punk history, having started their journey in the 1970s and, over more than four decades and various lineups (now performing with the original formation), have incorporated enough stylistic variations into their repertoire to provide a show that is, at the very least, interesting
Also originating in California in the 1980s, the band Sublime, which has more than one foot in ska and reggae rock, has featured Jakob Nowell , son of Bradley Nowell (the original vocalist, who died in 1996), on vocals since last year. This will be Jakob's first time in Brazil fronting the band.
Hailing from Chicago and with over 25 years on the road, Rise Against and the sheer weight of their hardcore have a loyal following here. They last played in Brazil in 2023 and sit somewhere between the more experienced groups mentioned above and the last two acts at the Punk is Coming .
One of these new acts is The Warning, a trio of young Mexican sisters who started their careers very early, in 2013. Their sound leans more towards hard rock and heavy metal than punk, so to speak, but the trio's energy on stage is astonishing and should captivate the Brazilian audience in this first foray of the girls into Brazilian lands.
Finally, the other youngest member of the group, the band that will open for The Offspring in Belo Horizonte, is Amyl and The Sniffers. This Australian quartet was formed in 2016 and is led by an absurdly charismatic and energetic vocalist, Amy Taylor . The band released a new album called Cartoon Darkness , their third studio album, at the end of last October and has been touring to promote it for some time, playing many shows, appearing on TV programs and releasing some hits in the process.
Like The Warning, this will be the Australians' first time in Brazil, and performing "under the wing" of the veterans The Offspring is undoubtedly a clever way to become known to a wider audience more quickly. They will also have a solo show at Cine Joia in São Paulo between tour dates. For them, this show may end up being the most memorable part of their time in Brazil, but the opening shows for The Offspring will be where they have the chance to leave many people speechless.
The first night of the tour, in particular, will feature only up-and-coming bands, full of energy, stepping onto a Brazilian stage for the first time and opening for the veterans of The Offspring, who are coming in strong to consummate their love affair with the local audience. For these and other reasons, the night of March 5th in Belo Horizonte promises to be truly special!
