Prince is the subject of controversy at the 2021 Oscars and his iconic costume is being honored by HER.

On the most important night in cinema, the music star's name was present in two major moments.

Last Sunday night, February 25th, the 93rd Academy Awards , the most famous and anticipated film awards. One of the night's highlights was the 23-year-old singer H.E.R. , who won the award for Best Original Song for "Fight For You," part of the soundtrack for the film Judas and the Black Messiah. Earlier this year, she also won a Grammy for Song of the Year with the song "I Can't Breathe."

For her red carpet outfit, the singer chose to pay homage to Prince , wearing a shimmering cobalt blue suit inspired by the iconic outfit the music star wore 36 years ago when he received his first and only Oscar for the soundtrack of Purple Rain. HER is admittedly a huge fan of Prince's work, having performed a breathtaking version of the song "Nothing Compares 2 U" during the In Memoriam of the 2020 Emmy Awards.

That wasn't the only time Prince was in the news on Sunday. During a short musical trivia game, actress Andra Day sparked the biggest controversy of the night. After hearing a snippet of "Purple Rain," Andra was supposed to answer whether she thought the song had won an award, lost an award, or even been nominated. Without mincing words, the actress blurted out: "That's a great song, so it probably wasn't even nominated for this crap."

Obviously, the answer caught the presenter and sound crew by surprise, but Andra's microphone was cut at the last second, censoring her speech on American TV. Below, you can see Prince's acceptance speech from 1985 and the moving cover performed by H.E.R. at the Emmy Awards.
