Primal Sinner released "Oedipus" this Friday, the 20th, a single that marks the evolution of the Colombian metal band's creative cycle.
The track is part of their upcoming new album DRÂMA, where sound, narrative, and reflection walk hand in hand, reaffirming the band's proposal, which understands music not only as entertainment but as a language and experience.
Produced by brothers Fabian and Jhon Tejada , mixed by Jens Bogren ( Sepultura , Arch Enemy , Testament , Opeth ), and mastered by Bob Katz , " Oedipus " was born guided by the Parnassian energy (focusing on "art for art's sake") of the group's creative process. Regarding the development of the track, founding guitarist Fabian Tejada commented:
“As the piece developed, this musical energy began to suggest something timeless, almost ancient. Naturally, it resonated with stories that have inhabited the human imagination for thousands of years. This connection led us to the figure of Oedipus , one of the oldest and most emblematic tragic characters, who seemed to embody the timeless force present in the music. However, instead of retelling the classic narrative, we felt that this character could speak differently to contemporary ears. The music became an opportunity to reinterpret Oedipus, to change the perspective and explore his story in a way that reflects a more modern and introspective understanding of chance, destiny, and tragedy.”
Compared to previous releases, “Oedipus” reveals a more mature and expansive approach, further highlighting the group's evolution and maturity. The new single serves as a sensory, conceptual, and emotional summary of the new album. It's the ideal gateway to this new chapter for Primal Sinner, showcasing the ideas that define the band today.
