Porn For Pyros has just released their latest song, “Fingernail.” Shortly after finishing their farewell tour, Horns, Thorns En Halos Perry Farrell 's band released their last studio track.
The track is part of an EP recorded in 2023 along with two other previously released songs, "Agua" and "Little Me." Although all of them were written in the 90s, they weren't recorded at the time.
In this recording, as in the two previous songs, the band reunited its original lineup: singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Peter DiStefano , drummer Stephen Perkins , and bassist Martyn LeNoble . Furthermore, the co-producer of all three tracks was Robert Adam Stevenson, who also composed the piano and string arrangement for the last one.
“The moment the melody touched the words, I knew it would be a special song,” Perry said of “Fingernail,” adding, “But I was too immature to fully grasp its essence.” He continued, “There’s no pain in cutting your hair, eyelashes, or fingernails, because they are dead, even though the world renews itself every instant. The death invested within us is expelled, and the soul is restored once more.”
Martyn LeNoble, who wasn't part of the farewell tour, also described his thoughts on the song: “In 'Fingernail,' I hear our lives and yours. Decades of growth. Happiness, heartbreak, tension, loss, and joy… growing pains. In this case, it took almost 30 years for this song to slowly grow and become what it is now. And the way the song ends… I love songs of redemption. I'd say we ended well, Perry, Peter, and Stephen.”
