In an interview with British Vogue, pop singer Charli XCX announced that her new album will be rock. The British artist will leave behind the dance vibe of the phenomenon Brat (2024) to take a new step in her career. The album does not yet have a release date.

Production will once again be handled by AG Cook and Finn Keane, who worked with the artist on her most recent album. In the interview, she described her upcoming work as a "reinvention of rock" and said she finds it "fun" to invert the patterns in music. "We know there will be people who will be bothered by this, but that's okay. If I had made another album with a more danceable feel, it would have been very difficult, very sad," she commented [transcription via Billboard Brazil].

To solidify the stylistic shift, Charli XCX revealed that she had abandoned the use of Auto-Tune and started focusing on rawer vocals and melodies driven by guitars and distortion, aiming for something more analog and that sounded like a demo. "We were making our version of analog music, which is so silly and funny, but it was important to show it from our perspective and make sure nothing sounded too sexist," she said.

Regarding the lyrics, the album will reflect on the artist's devotion to music and art, rather than focusing on her romantic relationship with her husband George Daniel, drummer of The 1975, an English indie and pop rock band, a theme that dictated her most recent work.

"The album comments on how I interact with the other great love of my life besides George, and what would happen if that were taken away from me, and how I would feel without purpose," she concluded.
