However, the elderly couple did indeed escape and went to the town of Wacken.

Earlier this week, we shared a story about two elderly people who escaped from a nursing home and were found at the Wacken Open Air festival. The news had been reported by Deutsche Welle .

Now, the story has been debunked. According to the Associated Press , the pair were 58 and 59 years old and had escaped from a home for people with mental health issues. The two men arrived in Wacken but only passed through the village to find a bar.

When the festival ended, several people claimed to have seen them "disoriented and intoxicated" and took them to the festival's medical tent, which caused the misinformation. Later, they called the police, who took them back home.

This year's Wacken Open Air took place between August 2nd and 4th and featured bands such as Judas Priest, Running Wild, Helloween, Dimmu Borgir, Nightwish, In Flames , and more.

The 2019 edition has already had part of its lineup announced and will take place from August 1st to 3rd, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Wacken Open Air. Tickets are already on sale.
