The Dead City Punx , a DIY Punk festival, brought together more than 2,000 people last Saturday, May 8th, and ended with police intervention in Los Angeles, California.
Photos from the event show a large crowd and, as expected from a punk show, no social distancing and only a few people wearing masks. Featuring Dead City, Barrage, Wacko, N8NOFACE, Section H8, Clorox Dream, Self Sabotage , and Alpha & Omega among the acts, the festival was announced on social media, but the location was not disclosed.
According to the LA Times , the reason for the police intervention was the presence of event participants on public roads, paralyzing traffic on Interstate 110, and the use of fireworks. Police used rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd, but there are no reports of injuries and no one was arrested.
“Thank you to everyone who showed up and to everyone who made this possible,” the organization posted. “Respect to all the people who stayed at our show while the pigs were shooting rubber bullets and tear gas at us while we were playing.”
In April, a hardcore show of similar proportions in New York also became a matter for the police. In that case, the event organizers will be investigated for possible violation of the permit.
