Last Wednesday, the 10th, Belo Horizonte welcomed two heavy metal powerhouses for a memorable night. The American bands Demon Hunter and POD (Payable on Death) landed in the capital of Minas Gerais, bringing a mix of melody, nostalgia, and, of course, plenty of metal to Mister Rock.
The first act to take the stage was Demon Hunter. The group showed what they were made of right from the first chords, opening the performance with "Sorrow Light the Way." The track served to energize the audience and make it clear that the night would be marked by a lot of intensity and visceral energy.
Next, the band kept the audience in ecstasy with the tracks “Heaven Don't Cry”, “Collapsing” and “The Heart of the Graveyard”. The highlight of the first part of the night was “Infected”, which opened up a mosh pit in the middle of the ecstatic crowd, and also “The Last One”, sung in unison by the fans.
To close the show with a flourish, the last song performed was "Storm The Gates of Hell," inciting yet another mosh pit. Demon Hunter's set served as a luxurious warm-up, setting the stage for the main attraction.

POD brings the power of Nu Metal.
Right on time at 10 PM, it was the turn of the icons of Christian Nu Metal, POD. The band's name, an acronym for Payable on Death, refers to the Christian belief that Jesus Christ paid the price for the sins of humanity.
The introduction with Ennio Morricone's classic "Per un pugno di dollari" blared from the speakers, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The first track on the setlist, "Southtown," set the mood for the performance, followed by a killer sequence of hits: "Rock the Party (Off the Hook)," "Boom," and "Set it Off," which kept everyone jumping and singing non-stop.
One of the highlights of the night was the performance of "Soundboy Killa." Vocalist Sonny Sandoval masterfully commanded the crowd, getting most of the audience to sing along, while those who weren't singing along kept jumping.
Surprises and classics on the setlist
A pleasant surprise in the setlist was the cover of "Don't Let Me Down" by The Beatles. The version, very well executed by the band and interpreted with soul by Sonny, was accompanied by a joke from the vocalist at the end of the song: "This is a cover song, some people don't know it's a Beatles cover."
The show continued with “Murdered Love,” “Lost in Forever,” and “I Won't Bow Down,” keeping the audience constantly moving. Towards the end, the anthems “Youth of the Nation” and “Afraid to Die” had even those who didn't know all the lyrics trying to sing along.
Closing the night with “Alive”, POD proved why they remain one of the biggest forces in Nu Metal today. The band showed themselves to be current, heavy and relevant, pleasing both long-time fans and those who don't follow the style so closely.
