Pitty 's debut album, Admirável Chip Novo , was released in 2003, and right from the start, the artist made it clear that she wouldn't settle for labels and boxes that people tried to pigeonhole her into. Pitty is a reference point, not only for many artists, but also for the huge audience that, since then, has identified with the aggressiveness in her sound and the themes addressed in her lyrics, without imagining that some of these issues would become important topics of discussion years later, such as the problem of image worship, self-acceptance, and feminism. ACN is still an extremely current album , and perhaps that's why the performance has no nostalgic tone: Pitty presents a modern show, with new arrangements, contemporary elements, without any intention of taking you back to 2003.
The show, which took place on April 12th, began by interspersing a call between Pitty and Rafael Ramos , the album's producer, with the intense performance of "Teto de Vidro," followed by the song that shares the album's name, "Admirável Chip Novo," and "Máscara," her first single—major hits that captivated fans who dreamed of space and identification and found power in shouting "the important thing is to be yourself, even if it's strange, be yourself, even if it's bizarre." In 2024, nothing has changed: the audience reaffirms these same positions in a timely manner, euphorically singing and jumping to every phrase written by the singer 20 years ago.
With a brief intro and a completely captivated audience clapping rhythmically, the opening riffs of "Equalize" calmed the mood in a romantic and quite sensual way, giving space for several friends and some couples in love to embrace and share yet another of the many feelings that Pitty allows us to experience in her 1 hour and 30 minute show. Everything is strategically designed so that you immerse yourself in an ocean of sensations: in "O Lobo " the artist plays guitar and interacts with her band in a mesmerizing way; "Emboscada" features a light show that follows her across the stage; in "Do Mesmo Lado," Pitty performs behind a flowing white fabric, incredible to see; in "Temporal," another breathtaking light show, while she positions herself at the center of it all. An impeccable direction, by the way, done by the singer herself!
A show divided into three acts, Pitty ended the first with "Semana Que Vem" and a speech about closing cycles to open new paths, and also made it clear that some of the songs from ACN will no longer be played live . The second act began with songs from "Espelhos," the singer's cover album, which includes remakes ranging from Bad Brains and Devotos to B-52s and Beatles .
The most devoted fans continued dancing and singing along enthusiastically, but some parts of the venue grew lukewarm, perhaps due to the heat, perhaps because they didn't know the songs. A highlight was "Sailin' On," a cover of Bad Brains, where Pitty risked (and nailed!) more aggressive vocals to the electrifying punk rock sound of the 1982 song. In the third act, revisiting her other albums, we had "Memórias" and the formation of a large punk mosh pit, while several participants vibrated to the sound of Kishimoto (bassist) amazing bass playing. "Na Sua Estante" and "Me Adora" brought the updated show of one of the greatest living artists in the country to a close. Needless to say, the audience was completely captivated; I'll let the crystallized history of these two songs speak for itself.
Pitty manages to compose a setlist entirely of classics, songs that have marked generations and continue to win over fans who, like the singer, refuse to accept the status quo. She lays bare the simplest to the most complex of feelings, leaving us completely stripped of what we (think) we are (and are not). A singer of immense sensitivity, a complete artist who allows herself to explore the universe poetically through her music and performances, she obviously deserves the position she has achieved by presenting consistent work throughout all these years. ACN will live forever, because she has the privilege of not only having marked a generation, but of having remained relevant with it.
