On his solo tour, the drummer has been playing Pink Floyd tracks written by Syd Barrett.
Since the end of Pink Floyd , drummer Nick Mason has watched his colleagues Roger Waters and David Gilmour produce incredible material in their solo careers.
In 2018, the drummer decided to embark on his own adventure and created Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets , and has since been taking Pink Floyd pre- Dark Side of the Moon on the road. These songs were mostly written by Syd Barrett , the band's former vocalist.
During an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone , Mason was asked about his favorite songs by his former bandmate Barrett. Among them, he cited "Astronomy Domine," which, according to him, has a science fiction theme that appeals to him. "It's a bit like Ginger Baker, who was a big influence on me," he said.
“Bike,” from the album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn , was cited as a “classic Syd Barrett track, mainly because of its lyrics.” Another track chosen from the 1967 album was “Interstellar Overdrive,” which Mason believes offers diverse possibilities for the player.
“Vegetable Man” and “Arnold Layne” were the last ones he mentioned. The first was chosen for its “kind of punk” drumming style, while the second was chosen for being “quite unusual”.
