Pink Floyd announces highly anticipated re-release of 'Animals'

The classic 1977 album will be re-released in various formats and, for the first time, with a 5.1 Surround sound system

Pink Floyd fans is finally over with the band's decision to reissue their classic 1977 album, Animals

Animals , which celebrated its 45th anniversary earlier this year, will have its new version released on September 16th in CD, LP, SACD and Blu-ray formats, and on October 7th in a deluxe version. This will be the first time the album will be available in 5.1 Surround Sound technology.

The new edition will also include a 32-page booklet with redesigned cover art adapted to the modern era by Aubrey “Po” Powell. Speaking about the work, Po said: “With the original 1977 album cover being such an iconic piece of art in its own right, I had the chance to update it, which was quite a daunting task. But Hipgnosis seized the opportunity to photograph the location again, aiming to reflect a change. Using modern digital coloring techniques, I maintained Pink Floyd’s rather dark message of moral decay, using Orwellian themes of animals and the pig Algie, true to the album’s message.”

The concept behind Animals , as many fans know, criticizes capitalism and its way of shaping society through consumption.

The commemorative reissue of the album has brought the differences between Roger Waters and David Gilmour . The feud between the pair dates back years and involves a disagreement regarding the writings of journalist Mark Blake.

After much confusion, Waters relented and agreed to the removal of the liner notes from the album copy, but the musician went to his official website to criticize Gilmour and his wife, Polly Samson.
