Pinhead Gunpowder , the band led by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day , announced on Friday, the 6th, their newest studio album, titled Unt . The band's second album is scheduled for release on October 18th, and the announcement came with a new track, the first in 16 years.
In a recent press release, the American band commented on their return (via NME ) : “Pinhead Gunpowder started writing songs in 1990 and made our first 7" (band EP) the following spring, but since 2010, we've only played for ourselves, something bands forget to do.”
“Instead of ‘writing for the new album’ or rehearsing to prepare for the tour, we’d go back to the basement every year. We lived in the house we built, remembering how we made music for each other in the first place. We played all over the world – well, at least in Oakland, Singapore, and New York – but only for each other. We worked on reissues of our back catalog as well, and found ourselves more fond of each other and more familiar than ever before.”
“A new album was only a matter of time, but between the other bands, projects, and families of the members, it was difficult to find the time. When we finally got it, we were all surprised. We think it’s our best yet – the most captivating, the most collaborative, and the most poignant.”
Pinhead Gunpowder consists of Green Day vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong, guitarist Jason White , who also tours with Green Day, bassist Bill Schneider Aaron Cometbus on drums and songwriting. The band has been around since the early 1990s, having officially released only one album, the excellent and energetic Goodbye Ellston Avenue (1997).
