Mike Fuentes was removed from the band.
Pierce The Veil released a statement commenting on the sexual abuse allegations against drummer Mike Fuentes.
The accusations were anonymous and made online, recounting stories that began more than ten years ago. As a result, Fuentes was removed from the band. Furthermore, the band cancelled their participation in the Pop-Punk band All Time Low's UK tour.
Check out the band's full statement:
"Since we started the band, the four of us agreed that not only would we write and play together for the rest of our lives, but we also wanted to build a strong community through our music and provide a safe place for ourselves and our fans to express our values through creativity, open-mindedness, love, and respect. Over the last ten years, we have achieved this and much more with the help of our incredible fans. The bond we share in this community is stronger than we could ever have imagined, and it is our pride and joy."
Recently, an accusation was made against Mike by an anonymous source regarding events dating back almost ten years. We are taking this accusation seriously and would like to share the steps we are taking in response. Below are some words from Mike.
"I am aware of the allegations made against me almost ten years ago, and I cannot begin to describe how difficult and disturbing this situation has been for everyone involved. I do not take this allegation lightly or lightly and would never minimize it. I empathize with any human being who has suffered abuse or mistreatment in their life, and I am inspired to see so many people speaking out about it. No one should suffer in silence, and I am grateful that the world is finally beginning to listen. I also want to assure you that I have never intentionally manipulated or abused anyone in my life. That is not who I am, how I was raised, or the type of behavior I tolerate. I firmly believe in the empowerment of abuse victims, so if I have ever made anyone feel less than equal, my sincerest apologies."
I love playing music more than anything on Earth and I am constantly grateful for the support of our fans. I don't want the accusation surrounding me to negatively affect the reputation or future of the band, or break the bond we have created with our fans over the years. So, I have decided to take a break and step away from my position in the band in the hope that this will allow my colleagues and fans to continue focusing on the music and the message that Pierce The Veil represents. Although I am far from perfect, I have a moral compass and seek to uphold what is right. While I am away, I will continue to work hard to live my life that way.
Since the allegation first surfaced, our band has been discussing how we can ensure that the Pierce The Veil community is always a safe place. We have made many efforts over the years to protect our fans, and we can and will do more. We believe in creating spaces where people can seek help for any problems they are experiencing and providing resources and tools to help.
As a band, we respect Mike's decision to take a break and move forward. Unfortunately, without a core band member, we will respectfully step away from the upcoming UK tour with All Time Low. We promise our fans we'll be back soon.”
Following Pierce The Veil's statement, it was All Time Low's turn to say a few words about what happened:
“Pierce the Veil will not be joining us on our UK tour in March. We respect and support their decision to withdraw at this time and believe in creating a safe, supportive and healthy environment at our shows. We will announce new opening acts soon and look forward to returning to the UK. Thank you.”
