Phil Campbell , former guitarist of Motörhead and leader of Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons , commented on what it's like to play his old band's songs in the absence of Lemmy , who passed away in 2015 .
with Heavy , the guitarist spoke about what it feels like to perform the tracks without the bassist. In his response, the musician said that when doing so, he "feels like Lem is nearby." (via Blabbermouth )
“Well, you just go on stage and perform. Even today, sometimes I’m playing and I have the feeling that he [Kilmister] is on stage nearby and some other member too. But you see the joy that people have on their faces in the crowd and you just go in and give it your best. But we play these songs well, we do them justice.”
Campbell will be performing in Australia and will be playing Motörhead songs on this tour: “Without Lem, it will never be the same, obviously, but we tried. It will be the only chance for Australians, especially younger fans, to hear some things with a band member playing.”
Campbell also spoke about what it's like to share the stage with his children.
Shortly after the dissolution of Motörhead , the guitarist created Phil Campbell and The Bastard Sons , whose lineup includes his three sons, Tyla , Dane , and Todd . When asked what it's like to go on stage with them, the guitarist replied:
“It’s been great because I spent many years of the boys’ formative years away from them when I was very busy with Motörhead. So it’s great to be able to give back and spend time with them and still travel the world with an amazing rock and roll band. They deserve it. They are great musicians. We are as close as hell, that’s what we have now. So, they deserve it. They deserve to step onto those stages. And it’s a lot of fun. Yes. I enjoy it.”
