Phil Anselmo revealed during an interview with The Pit that he was surprised by the positive reaction from the public when Pantera released Vulgar Display of Power . The album, which marked the band's sixth, was released on February 25, 1992.
Now considered a classic, Vulgar Display of Power elevated Pantera to a new level, establishing them as one of the greatest metal bands. The album features great heavy metal anthems such as "Mouth For War," "Walk," "A New Level," "This Love," "Fucking Hostile," and "Hollow."
“When Vulgar Display Of Power was first released, I had no expectations. I never had expectations for any record we made. I always felt that if I created an expectation about it, I would always be disappointed. So I just let things happen as they happened,” the vocalist said (via Blabbermouth ).
However, the musician was surprised, since Vulgar Display Of Power was a huge success. “Now, the reception of the album and – God – the tours, the tours (…). But I was surprised by how positive the reception was and all the crowds and fans. Well, that's when people started going to the shows – like, you had to see Pantera.”
