The vocalist suggested that Down continue without him
Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo has apologized to his bandmates in Down after the band was removed from the FortaRock Festival in the Netherlands due to racist remarks made by Anselmo .
Because Phil Anselmo's explosion of white power cannot be ignored
Here is the message written by Phil Anselmo:
To whom it may concern,
Every citizen of the world has the inalienable right to live with dignity and respect, free from hatred or oppression. I say this with all my heart, which feels guilty and broken.
Everyone knows that we can learn from our mistakes or continue down the path of destruction and insensitivity.
I am fully responsible for the mistakes I made and I can only pledge my word that I will never do it again, through ACTIONS and not merely through words.
My bandmates are suffering the consequences of my behavior, and I now publicly apologize to them as well. Never in my life would I drag them down with me, and I privately suggested to them that they continue without me.
My biggest problem is drinking too much and spouting phrases that are ignorant remissions of the human spirit. I'm going to correct that problem.
I am repulsed by my own actions and feel a disgust towards myself that is justified by the pain I have caused.
I understand that we live in a society where apologies are NOT easily accepted, but I look forward to the day when they can be, although I also understand if I am not forgiven.
From the bottom of my heart, and with all sincerity, I once again apologize for the pain I caused.
With truth, love, hope, and respect — Philip H. Anselmo
