Former Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo spoke about his career
Andivero magazine , Phil Anselmo , former vocalist of Pantera , spoke about his career. “Beyond Pantera’s popularity and the tragedy and how it all happened… you know, of course you’re going to grow up your whole adult life in the spotlight and be scrutinized like an insect, you know?”
“Honestly, I don’t see anything I do as being that sensational,” he continued. “I don’t write songs about just anything. I play around with characters in the songs. I’ve done that since… I think the first example I can think of is Pantera’s ‘Fucking Hostile,’ you know? Now I’m going to play this role, that role, whatever, I’ve done that my whole career with other bands.”
“I can see my creativity, take it or leave it, hate it or whatever, but honestly, I never liked putting people in boxes, but the media likes to do that, or political idiots like to do that. I'm not like that. It takes all kinds of people to make the world go round, and not everyone has the same idea of how this world works and that within it lies the beauty and the pulse of the world.”
“Am I really that controversial or am I just a guy living his human experience with an open heart and making music? I mean, really, fuck it. Take it apart all you want. I don’t really see myself as this dangerous guy. I’m 50 years old.”
The vocalist is recovering from back surgery. His solo project, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals , released their second album last November.
