According to the family, he died "peacefully in his sleep."

Singer and guitarist Peter Green , one of the founders of Fleetwood Mac , has died at the age of 73. According to a statement released by his lawyers, he died in his sleep.

"It is with great sadness that Peter Green's family announces his death this weekend, peacefully in his sleep. A further statement will be provided in the coming days," representatives told the BBC.

Green formed the band with drummer Mick Fleetwood in 1967 in London, and together they recorded the band's first three albums: the self-titled album, Mr. Wonderful , and Then Play On . The musician left the group in 1971, but Fleetwood has stated on several occasions that he was very important to the band's success. Green was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the late 1990s.

The guitarist suffered greatly from drug addiction and mental health issues. In the 1970s he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was hospitalized several times in different sanatoriums.
