In an interview with SiriusXM , The Who guitarist Pete Townshend stated that The Who no longer exists.
To justify this statement, Townshend says that the band was no longer what it used to be, as he is not entering the studio with Keith Moon , the drummer who passed away in 1978, and John Entwistle , the bassist who left us in 2002, but rather just himself, who claims to be good at other instruments as well, besides the guitar, Roger Daltrey on vocals, and the songwriter.
The guitarist still has difficult feelings about dealing with the death of his former bandmates, stating in a 2019 note that he was still angry with them, and that he knew it was selfish, but that's how he felt. This statement was published by Townshend after becoming the target of controversy for saying "thank God" for the musicians' deaths.
Despite this, the current lineup of The Who is expected to release an album of new material soon .
