Pete Townshend , guitarist for The Who , revealed his career plans after the band's farewell tour
In an interview with AARP , Townshend said he plans to do solo performances and also return to work on his solo album. In addition, the Englishman wants to turn his 2019 novel, The Age of Anxiety , into an album.
“I plan to try out some solo shows, and I have songs in various stages of development. 140 tracks ready for release. As for The Age of Anxiety , there are 26 songs that explore mental health in a non-autobiographical way, but inspired by my journey with addiction and recovery. I created a young character, with a psychic sensitivity, who seeks to make his audience happy. I hope this work starts a dialogue about depression, the role of the artist, and the dilemmas we face. Writing was cathartic, and those who read it said it really sparks conversations,” he stated [transcription via NME ].
Pete Townshend also responded that he will be working with his The Who bandmate, vocalist Roger Daltrey . According to the guitarist, the two will work together on charitable actions, special projects, and even collaborate to keep the band's legacy alive.
“Roger and I will certainly work together on charitable endeavors and possibly special projects. Together, we represent all aspects of The Who’s legacy. You know, I’m the songwriter and creator, but Roger has been the driving force in keeping The Who and its brand on the right track. Even with his solo work, we will continue to collaborate, even if we rarely socialize,” he concluded.
