Pete Townshend releases his first single in 29 years; listen to “Can't Outrun The Truth”

The profits from the song will be donated to cancer charity

Pete Townshend released his first single in 29 years this Friday, the 24th. “Can't Outrun The Truth” was produced and written by his wife Rachel Fuller under the pseudonym Charlie Pepper .

The music video, which can be viewed at the end of this article, was directed by Michael Nunn and William Trevitt and shows the musician in a series of performances.

Profits from vinyl sales and a portion of digital sales will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust . “The pandemic years have been terrible for charities; the Teenage Cancer Trust made money through a series of shows at the Albert Hall every year and all that has ended,” revealed the guitarist from The Who in a press release.

"So, the idea about mental illness came about for this particular charity. If you have a scenario where someone in your family or a teenager has cancer and is being treated, social isolation has prevented you from visiting them. There's pain in everything in music.".

In 2015, Pete Townshend released the compilation album Truancy: The Very Best Of Pete Townshend (2015), which featured the previously unreleased tracks "Guantanamo" and "How Can I Help You".
