Pete Shelley, frontman of the Buzzcocks, dies at age 63

The musician was an icon in the global punk scene

Pete Shelley , vocalist and co-founder of the legendary punk band Buzzcocks , has died at the age of 63, according to the BBC.

The newspaper reports that he died in Estonia, where he lived, and the cause of death is believed to be a heart attack.

Shelley, along with Howard Devoto , founded the Buzzcocks in 1970. The band made its live debut six years later opening for the Sex Pistols in Manchester.

The following year, the group released their first EP, Spiral Scratch . Devoto announced his departure shortly after. The Buzzcocks released three more studio albums before their first breakup in 1981. Eight years later, they reunited. The Way is the punk band's most recent album, released in 2014.
