Netflix and STXfilms are partnering to develop and produce a biopic about the life of Joey Ramone . Titled * I Slept With Joey Ramone* , the production is based on the book of the same name written by Joey's brother, Mickey Ramone.
According to Blabbermouth , the actor chosen to play Joey on screen is actor and stand-up comedian Pete Davidson , who has starred in films such as The King of Staten Island, Friendship with the Teenage Drama Queen Mötley Crüe biopic , The Dirt. Davidson is best known for his work on the American TV show Saturday Night Live.
I Slept With Joey Ramone is directed by Jason Orley , who previously worked with Pete on his stand-up special Pete Davidson: Alive From New York and the film Teen Friendship. According to STXfilms president Adam Fogelson , Mickey's book about Joey Ramone is "a great rock anthem that will become an equally great biopic, standing out for its universal family story."
“When you share a bed with someone – and not just a bed, but a childhood, a family, and an entire life – you know that person better than anyone else,” Fogelson said. “Mickey Leigh not only collaborated with his older brother’s band – he has irreplaceable memories and insight into Joey Ramone, having supported him when no one else wanted to and witnessed him overcome adversity in the most dramatic way.”
Fogelson also defended the choice of Pete Davidson for the film, assuring that he is "perfect for the role" of Joey Ramone and that they will "bring this rock icon to life".
