The band Pesta , formed in 2014 in Belo Horizonte (MG) by Anderson Vaca (bass) and Daniel Rocha (guitar), emerged with the intention of being a tribute project to the stoner doom genre, paying homage to bands such as Pentagram , Trouble , Candlemass , Cathedral and, of course, the legendary Black Sabbath .
For vocals, they invited Thiago Cruz , who readily accepted. In 2015, the band released their first EP, titled Here She Comes… , with four tracks, reaching a significant number of listeners on online music platforms. In the same year, Flávio Freitas (drums) and Marcos Resende (guitar) joined the band.
In 2016, the band released their first full-length album, Bring Out Your Dead . The album features 8 tracks and marked Pesta as a band, no longer just a project.
In 2019, Pesta released a cover single of the song "Nightmare" by the Belo Horizonte-based black/death metal band Sarcófago . Along with their debut EP, the band reached 260,000 streams on Spotify and over 30,000 on Bandcamp , with listeners in more than 30 countries.
Soon after, in the same year, the band released their second album, Faith Bathed In Blood , which, along with Bring Out Your Dead , was considered one of the best in its respective release year by specialized media outlets such as Doom Charts and Desert Psychlist in the US, La Habitación 235 in Spain, and Doomed Nation in Slovakia.
Changes to the lineup and shows
In 2022, Daniel Rocha left the band to accompany his wife and family to pursue their doctoral studies in Italy, and shortly afterward began his second doctoral degree, also in Italy. Since then, the band has continued as a quartet with only Marcos Resende on guitar.
The band's shows are known for the stage presence of vocalist Thiago Cruz, with a ritualistic performance and a powerful voice. The band delivers considerable density and weight in their sound, with Anderson's superbly arranged bass lines, Flávio's relentless attack on the drums, and Marcos' guitar full of incredibly heavy riffs. Some of this can be seen in the video of their live performance of the song "Witches' Sabbath".
New Release
On October 16th, Pesta will release their third album, titled The Craft of Pain . The album will feature 10 tracks and a special guest vocalist on one of them: Scott “Wino” Weinrich ( The Obsessed , Saint Vitus , Spirit Caravan , Probot …).
Wino accepted the invitation after seeing the band opening for The Obsessed in Brazil and sang on the track “Mirror Maze”. This is a landmark participation not only for the band's history, but also for the Brazilian and Latin American scene, since Wino is one of the pillars in the construction of the stoner doom genre in the world.
The album will be released on CD in Brazil by the São Paulo-based label Gate of Doom Records , which recently released Metal Blade in the country. The album will also have a vinyl edition released by the American label Glory or Death , known for its bold curation and constant dialogue with the vinyl collector community. The vinyl can be pre-ordered here .
The first single from The Craft of Pain , “Shadow of a Desire”, was released along with a music video in September 2025.
