Perry Farrell , lead singer of Jane's Addiction , defended himself against a lawsuit filed by his bandmates Dave Navarro , Eric Avery , and Stephen Perkins . The lawsuit is for $10 million. On September 13th of last year, Farrell assaulted Navarro during a band concert in Boston, United States.
The lawsuit accuses the singer of assault, bodily harm, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.
According to People , which had access to the defense documents, the vocalist presented 35 pieces of evidence alleging that Navarro has "dirty hands" and that "there are not enough facts to file a lawsuit" against him. The vocalist stated that he acted in "good faith and without malice" with the guitarist. In the same document, the defense mentioned that Dave "did not exercise reasonable care and diligence to mitigate the alleged claims and damages" [ via Blabbermouth ].
He requested the dismissal of the lawsuit and that Navarro pay all legal fees and court costs. The singer also requested that the musician not receive any money from the lawsuit. Christopher Frost , Navarro , was contacted by the magazine and criticized Perry Farrell, saying that the "lawsuit speaks for itself" against the Jane's Addiction vocalist.
“The same applies to the video. By responding in this manner, Mr. Farrell is not taking any formal legal steps to stop the litigation. This is consistent with the fact that they have not taken any positive steps to advance their claims, whether through discovery or otherwise, and is consistent with the strength of Dave, Eric, and Stephen’s claims,” he said.

According to the court documents, the lawsuit alleges that the cancellation of the band's tour resulted in losses exceeding $10 million (approximately R$55.7 million). The plaintiffs are demanding that Farrell cover all outstanding debts related to the tour cancellation.
Another issue raised is the vocalist's problem with alcohol. Farrell used to drink wine during shows. "Perry's performance problems worsened as the night went on, and he became more intoxicated," a source told Rolling Stone .
Part of the fight between Farrell and Navarro was captured on video, but it reportedly continued backstage, where the vocalist assaulted the guitarist again: “Nobody could calm Perry down backstage. When Navarro confronted Perry about his violent outburst, Perry threw another unexpected punch, hitting him on the left side of the face. Navarro was injured.”
