Pearl Jam: New album is heavier, says Mike McCready

The guitarist hopes the album will be released in 2024

In a recent interview, Mike McCready , guitarist for Pearl Jam , revealed that the band's next album is "much heavier than you would expect."

Currently, the group is working on the project following Gigaton (2020), and the album's producer is Andrew Watts , who has previously collaborated on projects with artists such as Ozzy Osbourne and The Rolling Stones .

In an interview with Classic Rock , the guitarist said he hopes the album will be released in 2024 and spoke about what it's like working with Watt: “When we were in the studio with him this past year, he really kicked our butts, made us focus and play song after song. It took a long time to make Gigaton , but this new one didn't take long. Andrew said, 'You guys take forever to make records. Let's do it, now.'”

Speaking about the album itself, he revealed: “It’s much heavier than you would expect. There’s the melody and energy of the early records. Andrew encouraged us to play as hard, melodically and thoughtfully as we haven’t in a long time.”

Matt Cameron 's drumming has elements of what he did in Soundgarden ."

"For better or for worse, you're going to hear a lot more guitar solos from me, things I haven't done in a long time." He continues: "I've gone crazy, like what happened with Chris Cornell and Temple Of The Dog on Reach Down (1991) years ago. I have to do it again."
