Pearl Jam became a topic of conversation among The Last of Us again on Monday morning (12) after the character Ellie appeared playing a snippet of “Future Days” on the guitar during episode 5 of the second season, released last Sunday (11). To celebrate the fans’ love for the acclaimed franchise, the band released an EP containing the songs featured in the HBO series.

Featuring four tracks: “Future Days” from the album Lightning Bolt , “All or None” from Riot Act , a live version of “Future Days” recorded during the Ohana Festival in 2024, and an alternate version of “Present Tense” from No Code .

The importance of "Future Days" in 'The Last of Us'

The Last of Us game series knows the importance of the song "Future Days" to its narrative. At the beginning of The Last of Us Part II , Joel plays and sings the song to Ellie in one of the most emotional and memorable scenes of the game – and of the franchise as a whole.

In the story, Pearl Jam's music is remembered as a strong bond between a father and his daughter, and this is evident right from the first verse of its lyrics: " If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself."

In 2020, during The Game Awards , Eddie Vedder , Pearl Jam's vocalist and composer of the track, performed "Future Days" live at the awards ceremony – shortly before The Last of Us Part II emerged victorious in the Game of the Year category.

The EP is available on all major streaming platforms. And to the delight of die-hard fans of the game series and the HBO production, a special limited edition 12-inch vinyl has been announced, available for pre-order exclusively for members of The Ten Club.
