Matt Cameron is no longer part of Pearl Jam . The drummer, who has been in the band since 1998, announced his departure through a post on Instagram.
Matt said: “After 27 fantastic years, I’ve taken my final steps on drums for the mighty Pearl Jam. Much love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me to the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, full of friendships, talent, challenges and laughter. I am eternally grateful to the crew, staff and fans worldwide. It has been an incredible journey. More to come. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Peace and Love, Matt Cameron.”
Pearl Jam also shared the drummer's statement and left a message lamenting his departure:
"From being one of our early musical heroes in the bands Skinyard and the mighty Soundgarden, to playing on our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and truly powerful musician and drummer.".
He propelled the last 27 years of Pearl Jam's live performances and studio recordings. It was a profoundly important chapter for our group and we wish him all the best always. We will miss him dearly and he will forever be our friend in art and music. We love you, Matt.”
Matt Cameron, who also played with Soundgarden , did not reveal the reason for his departure. Pearl Jam has also not announced who will be the new drummer.
