Bassist Jeff Ament said it was difficult for the band to overcome Chris Cornell's death

Pearl Jam album was affected by the death of Chris Cornell , according to a band member.

Cornell, who was the frontman for Soundgarden, Audioslave , and Temple of the Dog , died in May 2017. His death was confirmed as a suicide.

Speaking to Rolling Stone , bassist Jeff Ament explained that the band's new material has been slow-paced since the death. "It would be cool to record or just write a song with him," he said. "I think when Chris died – it was very difficult for the band to get over."

He added that the group was definitely working on a new album and that they were already halfway through. "We'll keep trying until we finish. We're kind of in limbo right now."
