Pearl Jam had to cancel their show on Wednesday night, the 20th, in Vienna, due to problems with Eddie Vedder .
In a statement released on social media , the band revealed that the extreme weather conditions at their last show in Paris contributed to damaging the singer's vocal cords. Europe is currently facing intense heat waves that have caused large wildfires.
"To everyone who was looking forward to the Pearl Jam show tonight in Vienna, we were too. However, due to extreme circumstances in the region near Paris (heat, dust and smoke from the fires), our vocalist Eddie Vedder's throat was damaged. He consulted some doctors and is undergoing treatment, but, for now, his vocal cords have not recovered," the band wrote.
The band apologized for the unforeseen circumstances and assured fans that Vedder wanted to play that night, but that "there simply isn't a voice available" at the moment. Fans who purchased tickets will be reimbursed.
Weather conditions are affecting tours.
Pearl Jam wasn't the first band to cancel dates due to problems related to extreme heat in the Northern Hemisphere. Recently, Iron Maiden had to cancel a date in Bologna, Italy, after the government declared a state of emergency due to a drought in at least five regions.
Earlier this month, singer Carlos Santana fainted on stage during a performance in Michigan, in the United States, and had to be rushed to the hospital. According to the singer, he suffered from dehydration, as he had "forgotten" to eat and drink water that day.
In June, the city of Vienna also had a Whitesnake canceled due to David Coverdale from a sinus and trachea infection.
