Paul Stanley explains how KISS deals with cover bands.

KISS guitarist and frontman Paul Stanley shared his opinion on the numerous cover versions of his band's songs.

During an interview for the Howie Mandel Does Stuff , Stanley explained that KISS grants licenses for some projects. However, since the makeup and stage names are intellectual property, they cannot be used for any purpose.

“There are some KISS tributes that we allow to continue,” he commented [transcription via Blabbermouth ]. “We give them a license to do this, which can be revoked at any time, because all the makeup and all those characters are trademarks and nobody can use them for any purpose.”

Paul Stanley also responded to whether KISS had ever banned any of his covers that ended up exceeding the rules. The musician argued that if it "becomes a big business, it ceases to be a tribute." He also stated that "there's no problem" with making money, but that the main thing is that "the heart is in the right place."
