Paul McCartney announced last Tuesday, the 23rd, through his social media, the release of One Hand Clapping , an album by Wings , his band formed in 1971. The album was recorded live in August 1974, however, it was never officially released, although several bootleg versions have surfaced over the years.
The recording took place at Abbey Road , coinciding with the filming of the documentary, directed by David Litchfield , former editor of Ritz and a friend of Paul's.
One Hand Clapping was also responsible for introducing the new Wings lineup, following the sudden departure of Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough the previous year during the recording of Band On The Run . Now, the trio that included the eternal Beatle, Linda McCartney , and Denny Laine was joined by guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Geoff Britton .
The album's tracklist includes not only Wings songs, but also new versions of classic Beatles — "Blackbird," "Lady Madonna," "The Long and Winding Road," and "Let It Be" — and covers of Eddie Cochran and Buddy Holly . In addition, the album features the previously unreleased track, "Blackpool."
Pre-orders are now available on Paul McCartney's website.
Scheduled for release on June 14th, the album will be available in various formats, including an exclusive edition of two LPs + 7″. Pre-orders have already begun on Paul McCartney .
