The feud between The Beatles and The Rolling Stones is nothing new: arguments over the title of band with the greatest legacy in music history, and even accusations of plagiarism among the members, have made headlines over the last few decades – and Paul McCartney strikes again.

In a new interview with The New Yorker , the former Beatle commented on the scope of each project. “I’m not sure if I should say this, but they’re a blues cover band, which is kind of what the Stones are. I think our reach was a little bit broader than theirs,” he said.

After so many years, however, this rivalry has become sporting and good-humored. As Rolling Stone , McCartney always goes to Stones concerts when he can. “They are a fantastic band,” he praised in an interview with Howard Stern on SiriusXM . “Their roots are in the blues. When they write music, it’s about the blues. We had more influences. There are many differences, I love the Stones, but I agree that the Beatles were better.”
