Last Saturday, the 18th, Paul McCartney took to his social media to mourn the death of civil rights activist and US congressman John Lewis .
Lewis died at age 80 from pancreatic cancer, and his death was deeply mourned as he was the last of the Big Six : a group of civil rights activists led by Martin Luther King Jr.
To honor Lewis's memory, McCartney added a suggestion to his lament over the legendary activist's death, asking, "How about renaming the famous Pettus Bridge that he and Martin Luther King Jr. and others walked across in the 1960s for the civil rights movement and renaming it the John Lewis Bridge?!!!".
The choice of the Pettus Bridge was no accident, considering it was named in honor of Edmund Winston Pettus , a former general, senator, and leader of the Ku Klux Klan, a terrorist and racist organization in the state of Alabama. Despite attempts to rename the bridge, Edmund's name remains on the monument.
