Lennon would help McCartney during the songwriting process
At 71 years old, Paul McCartney released his sixteenth solo album this week, entitled "New," and according to him, John Lennon participated in the songwriting process
“If I’m at a point in the process and I think, ‘I’m not sure about this,’ I throw the question across the room to John and he says, ‘No, you can’t go that way.’ And I say, ‘You’re right. How about this?’ And he says, ‘Yeah, that’s better.’ We talk. I don’t want to lose that.”

Regarding Yoko Ono, with whom Paul has developed a better relationship in recent years, he says he follows George Harrison's advice and doesn't hold onto a grudge that never really existed:
“I think, ‘If John loved her, she must have something; he’s not stupid,’” adds Paul McCartney.
In 2012, Yoko Ono thanked Paul McCartney for publicly stating that he was not responsible for the Beatles' breakup in 1970.
