Paul McCartney took to social media on Wednesday, the 30th, to pay tribute to the late Foo Fighters , Taylor Hawkins , who died last Friday, the 25th.

“Taylor’s sudden death was a shock to me and to the people who knew and loved him. He wasn’t just a great drummer, he had a big, brilliant personality and his absence will be deeply felt by all who were lucky enough to live and work alongside him,” wrote the former Beatle.

McCartney recalled an episode when he played drums on the Foo Fighters track “Sunday Rain” from the album Concrete and Gold (2017), while Hawkins provided vocals. “They asked me to play on one of their tracks. It turns out they wanted me to play drums… This request came from a group with two incredible drummers! It was a wonderful session and solidified my relationship with Taylor and the guys.”

“Later they asked if I would induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I sang 'Get Back' with them. Taylor provided a powerful drum part. I will never forget that night. It all came as a desperately sad shock to me to learn that he had died. So, thank you Taylor for sharing a few glorious minutes with me. You were a true rock and roll hero and will always remain in my heart.”
